Year 8 Solar Car Challenge in Bunbury

Year 8 students from the College competed in the Solar Car Challenge in Bunbury on Tuesday, placing third overall after a number of heats.

Xavier Mockford, Julius Bain, Gabe Doolan and Thomas Toohey designed and built their solar car over the last three weeks in preparation for the first regional leg since the national competition began two years ago.

VET Week and Try-a-Trade

In partnership with Skilled Hire, fifteen Year 10 students participated in a four-day Try-a-Trade course recently at the College. The students, who showed an interest in apprenticeship, trades or the Building and Construction industry, gained valuable knowledge and skills across a range of activities including erecting and dismantling scaffold, bricklaying, brick paving, carpentry and joinery.

Josh Yates speaks to Year 3 students on resilience

Miss Pilpel’s Year 3 class welcomed a guest speaker last week with a remarkable story of resilience and courage.

Students were provided with some background information about Josh and how he has shown resilience throughout his life, and they created individual questions to ask Josh at the end of the presentation.

B Division ACC Swimming Carnival in Perth

The College’s best swimmers faced a tough battle against seasoned squads on Tuesday at the ACC B Division Swimming Carnival in Perth.

Our Senior students produced some exciting results, and strong relay performances boosted both the Senior Girls and Senior Boys Aggregates to third position by the end of the day.

A sea of hands for Harmony Day

On the 21 March for Harmony Day we celebrated the cultural diversity of the College and spread the message that everyone belongs.

Students in Years 5, 7 and 8 cut out and decorated hands as a symbol of inclusion, adding what Harmony Day means to them, and displaying the hands on the oval during lunch.

Primary campus enjoy ‘Beauty and the Beast’ teaser

Last Friday afternoon the Primary campus were treated to a ‘teaser’ performance from the cast of the College’s musical production of Beauty and the Beast. It was, in fact, a tech rehearsal for the 35 cast and 16 crew members, as they prepare for their in-season performances this week.

Hospitality hosts Ambassador Chef program

Head Chefs from renowned local restaurants Al Forno and Rustico visited the College on Wednesday afternoon to demonstrate their passion and culinary skills to 30 Year 11 and 12 students completing their Certificate in Hospitality. Three students from Cornerstone College joined in the sessions as part of the Ambassador Chef program with Hospitality Group Training.

Draw on the Floor Chalk-Off for House Spirit

The Student Council Arts representatives invited Year 6 and 7 students to participate in a chalk drawing competition on the old courts last Thursday, with the aim of building House Spirit.
Over 50 students participated in total, with Russell and Kelly gathering the biggest turn out.

Artist in Residence: Rachelle Dusting

Year 12 Visual Arts students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a full day incursion with Perth based Artist Rachelle Dusting recently. A 2013 honours graduate in Fine Arts at UWA, Rachelle is well known for her hyper-realistic painting style.

Students begin Lent with Rice Day

Following the Ash Wednesday Liturgy, the Primary campus enjoyed Rice Day on the first Friday of Lent, to consider the many people around the world who have so little to eat on a daily basis. Students were encouraged to donate $2 to participate in Rice Day, experiencing what it feels like to have only one bowl of rice to eat.
