Tayla Jackson, Sam Tolley, Lili Renfrey, Ethan Durrant, Sarah Court, Diwan Ackerman, Sophie Wilmot, Ross Rann and Ned McMinigal, would like to thank the College and wider community for supporting their efforts in raising money to support a number of projects under the guidance of the Josephite Sisters’ Mary MacKillop East Timor Mission.

Six netball teams headed to Hay Park in Bunbury on Monday 18 June to compete in the South West Carnival for the High Schools Netball Cup, with two of our teams qualifying for the State Elimination Day in Perth next term.

The Year 8 girls put in a stellar performance in the wet conditions, remaining undefeated for the entire day to secure top spot on the ladder and finish as champions in the lower (Year 7/8) division.

Ms Barnard’s Year 5 class have been researching notable indigenous Australians in class recently. Their lives as teachers, scientists, politicians, entertainers and athletes may have taken them far away from their traditional home, but they still have a strong relationship with their Country and people.

Year 10 students who finished their exams on Friday were treated to a delicious Mars Bar slice, made for them by their peers.

Students found a recipe that was designed to feed twelve, and recalculated it to make enough for the 150 Year 10 students who were sitting in exams each morning last week.

Two classes of Year 9 Food Technology students have been preparing, cooking and presenting all manner of treats for the judges in this semester’s Junior Master Chef challenges.

Selecting sweet or savoury recipes with a maximum of 12 ingredients, the students formed small groups to prepare and cook their dish over two lessons, plating them up for a judging panel of three staff members in the hope of winning an apron and title of Junior Master Chef.

The sun emerged once again with perfect timing for the Year 5 and 6 students, who travelled to Bunbury on Thursday 14 June for the 2018 SWPSA Winter Carnival. This was a fun, participation-based event, providing opportunities for students to play AFL, hockey, netball or soccer against other local schools.

John Filipiak is now well and truly on the move, thanks to the generous support of the community. His modified vehicle has arrived, and he now has his fully customised wheelchair and a gym installed at home to help with physio and exercises.

Geraldine Gamble’s ‘Wheels for John’ campaign was topped off with a recent busy bee at the Filipak home to help prepare the yard for both vehicles, completing installation of a new driveway and footpath to the back of the house.

A framed copy of the National Apology made to Australia’s indigenous people was presented to the College on Friday 25 May, during a Secondary campus assembly to commemorate Sorry Day.

Aboriginal Liaison Officer Lisa Weston opened the Assembly with a Welcome to Country, before Head Boy, Ben Salmond, spoke to students about the significance of this tenth annual Sorry Day, which commemorates the tabling of a report on 26 May 1997 about the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Last week the College Library hosted Primary campus workshops on character development from author Sasha Wasley and illustrator Chris Nixon, who were in town for the Margaret River Young Readers & Writers Festival.

Illustrator of the book Pandamonium, Chris Nixon, helped students in Year 3 to create their own characters and stories through drawing.

Room 19’s assembly was based loosely on the novel Wonder. Instead of a strange kid entering a class of "normal" students, it was about a "normal" kid entering a whole class of weird students. Mr Ryan’s Year 6 class are a very humorous bunch who make puns about everything!
