On Thursday 31 May athletes representing St Mary MacKillop College boarded the bus at 5am in order to compete in the ACC Cross Country in Perry Lakes, Perth.
At the carnival there were 67 schools competing, with an average of 330 athletes in each race.
Library and Information Week was celebrated in the Primary campus this week with our Annual Book Fair and participation in the National Simultaneous Storytime.
Primary students were part of over one million participants across more than 8,250 venues in Australia who read the children’s book ‘Hickory Dickory Dash’ at 11am on Wednesday.
Wednesday night the Primary campus was alive with animals of all shapes and sizes, as this year’s ‘paws’ themed Book Fair attracted a huge crowd once again.
There were lots of cats and dogs, tigers and rabbits, as students, staff and parents got into the spirit of the evening with some clever and elaborate costumes.
The 2018 High Tea for Timor was held in the College Gymnasium on Saturday 19 May. Guests were treated to an afternoon of delicate treats, coffee and tea, raffle prizes and a fabulous silent auction.
The event was a huge success, raising almost $10,000 from the tickets, raffles and auction items thanks to the generosity of guests and the support of many local businesses – from Nina’s who donated the diamond earrings and voucher for the major raffle to the hire of round tables, donated by Wonderland Tents & Events.
In February, Year 11 student Beau Haynes competed at the National U/19 Outrigger Canoeing Sprint Titles in Queensland, where he won two team silver medals. Beau’s individual and team performances also earned him selection on the National U/19 OC6 Sprint crew, who will travel to Taaone Bay, Tahiti, to represent Australia at the Va’a World Sprint Championships in July.
The College and Parish came together on Sunday morning, 20 May, as 46 Year 3 students enjoyed a Thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady of the Bay Church, after completing their sacrament of Reconciliation after school last week.
Father Jaybee celebrated the Mass, which was followed by a delicious morning tea.
The St Mary MacKillop College Inter House Athletics Carnival took place over three weeks of competition, including 1500m distance races and various events of both track and field.
The K-4 Carnival began on Wednesday 9 May with students enjoying a beautiful day filled with fun and participation.
On Friday our Year 9, 11 and 12 students returned from Camp Week – some smelly, most exhausted and all of them a little changed by the experience.
This was the first time our Year 9 students took on the five-day Explorus Camp based in Karridale, and most approached the week with a healthy mix of excitement and trepidation.
Year 7 and 8 students had the Secondary campus to themselves for most of this week, with Years 9-12 on camps, service and work experience activities. They took this opportunity to explore pastoral topics such as mental health, organisation and leadership skills, local history, wildlife and Aboriginal heritage, and got in some fun excursions from Dunsborough to Bunbury.
During the April holidays, the St Mary MacKillop College Equestrian Team (four riders and five horses) spent five successful days at the State Equestrian Centre in the Swan Valley, where they participated in the 2018 Saddles Plus Inter Schools Festival.
