Hospitality update: Breakfast, coffee and more coffee

Term 1 has flown by and students in their final year of Certificate II in Hospitality have been busy getting on top of their twelve units of competency. For six weeks at the beginning of the term, three students each week created a delicious hot breakfast for the swim squad who diligently turned up for early morning training.

Year 4s animated student film screening

Late last term the Year 4 students in Room 12 gathered in the Multipurpose Room for popcorn and movies. These movies were a collection of animated films created by the students themselves, with help from Year 9 English students.

The topics illustrated in each film related to the Values Education unit being covered in Health.

Melbourne Arts Tour 2017

The recent Arts Tour to Melbourne in the April school holidays was a fabulous experience for the fourteen students and three staff members involved.

We departed Perth airport on Easter Monday and embarked on a tour rich with culture for six days.

Kindy students enjoying our new playground

It has been great to see our Kindy and Pre Primary students enjoying the new playground equipment that has gone in throughout first term. With the new boat also installed in the Early Learning Centre, the kids have been engaging in a range of imaginative play centred around this brightly painted structure.

Cycling: U/17 state squad selection

Year 11 student Courtland Wood has been selected in the under 17s State Squad. He recently placed a very close third in the Pemberton Classic U/17 Road Race title. Courtland narrowly missed second place in a photo finish sprint across the line. Courtland is working towards representing WA at Nationals in Devonport Tasmania at the end of August.

ANZAC Day community involvement and assembly

The College gathered on the first day of term, Monday 24 April, to remember those who served Australia through the many conflicts that have occurred around the world. We were very fortunate to welcome Mr Robert Wood, President of the Busselton RSL, to speak to our students and lead us in the Ode to ANZACS.  We prayed for the men and women of our armed services who gave of themselves to protect our country and to strive for world peace.

Accelerated Reader program increases reading levels

After a period of just six weeks on the Accelerated Reading program, we have already seen outstanding results with the majority of students on the program increasing their reading level.

Accelerated Reading (AR) is an online reading program that was introduced to our Year 4-6 classrooms this year.

P&F Term One update

Friday 10 March saw the St Mary MacKillop College community come together once again for our annual Welcome Sundowner.

Cricket – Semi and Grand Final

Cricket Kim Hughes Shield Finals against Newman and Belridge SHS

The 1st XI cricket team beat Newman College in a very tight game on Wednesday 22 March to advance to the Kim Hughes Shield Grand Final at Murdoch University in Perth. Jarmon Smith took five wickets and Shay Thackrah made 40 runs in this match, with a great effort all round against a much fancied team.
