St Mary MacKillop College students competed well in the 2017 ACC Cross Country event, held on Thursday 1 June at Alderbury Reserve in Perry Lakes, Perth. With a total of 67 schools competing across ten categories, seven of our teams finished in the top 20 for their category, with an impressive sixth place for the U/13 Boys’ team, as well as seventh place for both the U/15 Girls’ and U/16 Boys’ teams.
Occasional showers did not dampen student spirits at the Primary campus Inter-House Athletics Carnival on the College oval Thursday 18 May. Parents were kept warm and fed with the Yahava coffee van and an endless supply of delicious treats from the P&F cake stall.
Strong winds and poor conditions at Gracetown, Cowaramup awaited the St Mary MacKillop College Surfing Team as they prepared to take on other South West schools at the 2016 SunSmart WA School Surfing Titles – South West Division.
After training with the West Australian State under 15 cycling team, Year 9 student Courtland Wood will be travelling to Bendigo, Victoria, next week to compete in the Junior Road Cycling National Championships. He will race in the 10km time trial, 31.5km road race and Criterium events over three days.
The College sent over seventy Year 7 students to Hay Park in Bunbury on 2 August to compete in the South West Division of the ACC Freo Dockers Shield, including a boys team and, for the first time, two teams of girls.
Year 10 student Riley Culnane has recently returned from Adelaide, where she represented WA in the School Sport Australia 15 & Under Netball grand final against NSW. At the end of the six day tournament, WA was crowned national champions and Riley was one of four WA players named in the All Australian Team, who will be touring to Fiji in 2017.
On Friday 22 July at 5:30am Mr Horrocks and Ms Stark took the Senior boys and the Year 8 netball teams up to Perth to compete in a fun filled day. The whole day I was impressed with the amazing efforts from the Year 8 girls, who kept their chins up while versing some talented schools. They showed determination and strength to head back out on the court and give it another go after losing three games in a row.
Year 12 MacKillop student Marcus Lazic-Dawes played in a strong representative team from the South West Football League who returned as Colts champions from the Landmark Country Football carnival during the holiday break.
Competing over three days, the SWFL Colts defeated Regional Districts and Northern Suns on Friday before losing to Great Southern on Sturday.
On Thursday our Primary Cross Country stars travelled to Bunbury to compete in the SWSPA Cross Country Carnival at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. The students had been attending before school training sessions for five weeks leading up to the day, with many continuing through the holiday break.
