Assembly & Awards (2CT): gorgeous grammar

Mrs Tilley’s Year 2 class shared the joys of grammar in their assembly at the end of Week 6 – and it was MUCH more exciting than it sounds!

The class began by demonstrating, very colourfully, examples of nouns and adjectives. Each student had drawn a picture of a different animal and came dressed as that animal, with some fantastic costumes thanks to the parents.

Assembly & Awards (4PM): All about advertising

Mr Magee’s Year 4 class shared what they had been learning about in English this term all about Advertising. They looked at a number of techniques used by advertisers when writing advertisements to persuade people to buy their product. Students applied what they had learned to create posters advertising the assembly, which they displayed around the school.

Year 6 students celebrate their Confirmation

Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Our Lady of the Bay Church, in Busselton on Sunday 20 August.

All students in Year 6 have focused on learning about the sacrament and their own spiritual growth over the past term. The 44 candidates were very well prepared, with plenty of support from classmates during their journey.

Book week: through the ‘wardrobe’ into fantasy

Year 7 students celebrated Book Week recently with a ‘fantasy hat tea party’ in the library at recess.

Staff decorated the Library entrance as a wardrobe portal into Narnia, complete with coat rack, snow covered trees and lamppost.

The library invited students to create a hat or mask based on a fantasy creature or imaginative creation of their own.

Wind tunnel challenge for Year 8 students

During Week 6, the Year 8 students participated in a wind tunnel challenge workshop facilitated by Questacon Smart Skills. The workshop took students through the innovation process of think, make, try and refine.

“We learned about wind-tunnels, indoor skydiving, ‘proto-storming’ and MacGyver,” said Year 8 student Marc Aquino, who enjoyed the challenge of engineering an object using limited materials that will float in a wind tunnel for a minimum of ten seconds.

Perth Scorchers give kids a go at cricket

The Perth Scorchers Bus visited the College last Wednesday to give students the opportunity to have a go at playing cricket.

Facilitated by the South West Cricket Development Office, the sessions gave students a chance to try out the sport, with the aim of promoting cricket to ages 7-12.

The activities continue the College’s primary sports program of refining fundamental movement skills to develop specific skills used in organized games such as cricket.

Assembly and Awards (2EM): Your unique identity

Miss Meagher’s Year 2 class began their assembly by re-enacting the story ‘The Gifts of the Sun Goddess’. Its vibrant message – that what you might dislike about yourself could be the very quality that others strive for – relates to our studies on ‘Identity’.

Science Week? Let’s make it all year long…

Science Week this year saw our students on the secondary campus engineering towers out of paper and straws during lunchtimes. It was a task that challenged their skills in creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, as they strived to solve the problem of building maximum height combined with maximum strength.
