ACC Swim Team earns B Division fifth and shield win

The College’s ACC Swim Team fought a tough battle on Tuesday at Challenge Stadium in Perth to hold our spot in the B Division competition and bring home the Girls Aggregate Shield, after jumping up from C Division with a debut win last year.

With only a handful of points separating fourth to eighth place all day, the positions changed up and down with every score update, and we struggled for a first place in any race.

Kindy joins in Harmony day celebrations

On Tuesday 21 March we celebrated Harmony Day, which celebrates cultural diversity and inclusion: spreading the message that everyone belongs.

Mrs Harding’s Kindy class welcomed parents as guest speakers from Kenya, Zimbabwe, England and Vietnam, and enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to learn about the different cultures and traditions celebrated in our diverse community.

Mr Fabre’s Year 6 class from Room 17 have been reading a book called ‘Wonder’, about a boy called August who is attending school for the first time. August has severe facial deformities from birth, and other students are confronted by his appearance.

Ultimate Frisbee teams show great sportsmanship

Two Year 10-12 Mixed teams travelled to Perth last Thursday for the 2017 Ultimate Frisbee High School Championships.

I am reminded every day how proud I am to be working at this school, but today the students also reminded me that sometimes it’s not all about winning but also about how you play the game.

St Joseph’s Day: if I were a carpenter…

Primary students explored the world of carpentry and wood on Friday as part of our St Joseph’s Day celebrations.

After celebrating Mass as a whole school community and a St Patrick’s Day morning tea for staff, the Year 3 and 4 students met Mr Harrison Ward, who works as a carpenter. He demonstrated how a dining room chair is made, and the students had plenty of questions about what it’s like to be a carpenter today.

Year 1 students visit Butter Factory and Jetty

Year 1 students visited the Butter Factory and Busselton Jetty as part of their studies in History and Art.

This semester in History, Year 1 classes have been learning about family trees, and have explored growing and changing over time by making comparisons from the past to the present.

Dr Tim McDonald commends our teachers and students

Director of Catholic Education WA Dr Tim McDonald visited the College on Tuesday in response to our excellent 2016 graduate results and awards. He addressed the students and staff, expressing his appreciation for the efforts of teaching and support staff, and challenging students to “thank a teacher” for the help they provide.

Leadership and Service excursion to Perth

The Senior Student Council participated in a Leadership camp in Perth last week, which was an inspiring and humbling experience for both the students and the staff who accompanied them.

The Salvation Army’s ‘Beyond the Classroom’ program provides opportunities for the students to gain a better understanding, through hands-on experience, of the need to proactively support volunteer groups and their fundraising efforts.

Cricket: Kim Hughes Shield Round Two against BCGS

Our second game of the Kim Hughes Shield saw us play at our home ground, Barnard Park, against the highly rated Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. It was played in very warm conditions and the toss could play a vital part in deciding the winner. As it turned out both captains each wished to do something different with the win of the toss and so both were happy for MacKillop to bat first.
