Assembly and Awards 1TP – the value of a good friend

Our Week 2 Assembly was co-ordinated by Ms Thomas, Mrs Pusey and the Year 1 students from Room 5, who kicked off their first assembly performance with a re-enactment of a popular Russian folk tale, ‘The Little Red Hen’. This lovely Little Red Hen had some lazy friends who did not help! The Year Ones showed that if you want rewards, you have to contribute.

SWPSA 2016 Interschool Athletics Carnival

Forty five of our top performing students in athletics from Years 4-6 headed to Bunbury on Thursday to represent the College in the SWPSA 2016 Interschool Athletics Carnival at Hay Park.
The selected students had been training before school twice a week to prepare for the carnival, and they all performed extremely well on the day.

Sea Life dress-up day

At the end of last term Mrs Marshall’s Kindy class enjoyed a dress-up day to wrap up their learning inquiry into sea life.

Students investigated what lives in the sea, their favourite sea creature and a resulting discussion on boats - and pirates, of course.

Year 12 Graduation Mass and presentations

On Wednesday 19 October our Year 12 students celebrated their graduation with a Mass at Our Lady of the Bay Church, followed by supper in St Joseph’s Hall.

The Mass began with the procession of graduating students and a candle ceremony, recognizing the light from parents, College staff and executive, as well as the remaining student body passed onto our graduates to take out into the world.

Swimming Championships in Perth and Darwin

Five MacKillop students qualified for the State Swimming Championships, which were held on September 9 in Perth.

Ross Rann was a finalist in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke, and went on to achieve silver medals in both backstroke events.

Ride to work day

Ride2Work Day Wednesday 12 October

More than fifteen St Mary MacKillop College staff took advantage of the lovely spring weather on Wednesday 12 October to participate in the annual Ride2Work Day. While a number of College staff members regularly cycle to work, others also rode in from as far afield as Port Geographe and Vasse to join in the event.

Timor Team announced for 2017

Last week the College announced the ten students selected for Timor 2017. This was an extremely tough selection, with such a strong group of Year 11 students this year in both their interviews and their commitment to service.

The 2017 Timor Team and their families will spend the next few months organizing fundraising initiatives and events to support the school communities in and around Baguia in Timor Leste.

Year 12 students give blood

On Wednesday 7 September a group of Year 12 students travelled up to the Bunbury Red Cross Donation Centre to volunteer for their first ever blood donation. After a series of checks, which included finding out their height, weight and blood type, the students each donated just under half a litre of blood and then enjoyed sandwiches, juice and chocolates in the recovery room.

Assembly and Awards 5DA: What does the Whale Say?

Our Week 9 Assembly was co-ordinated by Mrs Magee and the Year 5s from Room 16, who showcased what they have been learning recently all about whales. The students had lots of fascinating facts to share about Orcas, Minkes, Sperm, Grey and Blue Whales among others.
