Inaugural Curiosity Academy Showcase

On Wednesday 16 October the Curiosity Academy held their first ever Showcase at the College, in the Secondary Library. Up to thirty families attended the evening to explore the range of topics, events and projects their children had been involved in throughout the year.

ACC Athletics Carnival 2019 results

The St Mary MacKillop College Athletics squad competed in the ACC ‘D’ Division Athletics Carnival held in the State Athletics Centre at Challenge Stadium on Friday 20 September. All the students put up some great performances and had an awesome day, with our Senior Girls even managing to come away with a trophy.

Curiosity Academy: inaugural Junior Philosothon

On Friday 20 September eight students in Years 4 to 7 from the Curiosity Academy joined students from eleven other schools from Bunbury to Margaret River and Pemberton for the inaugural South West Junior Philosothon at Geographe Primary School. Students from Scotch College and St Hilda’s also came down from Perth for this opportunity where students can share their thinking in a stimulating and collaborative way.

Slam Series Basketball

On Friday 13 September our selected Year 6 girls and boys basketball teams competed in the Slam Series Basketball Carnival, which was held at the Geographe Leisure Centre in Busselton.

A new regional carnival this year, MacKillop played extremely well against Bunbury Baptist College and GMAS. Both boys and girls improved in teamwork throughout the day, playing in the spirit of the game and displaying fantastic sportsmanship.

Primary Assembly 3LH: All Aussie Adventures

Mrs Heitman’s class in Room 15 have been learning all about Australia in HASS and English, including its location, states and territories, famous natural or manmade landmarks and animals. The students have been busy researching, writing information reports and creating power point presentations, so their assembly was a great opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned.

Year 6 Asian Summit

On Thursday 19 September, students from Mr Clark and Mrs Harslett’s Year 6 classes invited parents and guests to attend their 2019 Asia Summit in the Multipurpose Room.

The Summit was a culmination of the learning students have undertaken this term about the continent of Asia.

Bridge Building

What started off as excitement, enthusiasm and bridge prototypes, culminated when finally, after weeks of hard work, we were on our way to the Aurecon Bridge Building Competition. Nerves were soon replaced with music as two teams of three students set out toward Scitech on a chilly spring morning.

One Big Voice

On August 30 the Primary Choir went up to Perth Arena to participate in the One Big Voice Festival, which brings together Primary students from across the state to sing songs about unity and the power of positive thinking. This is the largest choir festival

This year, the students performed songs such as Panic at the Disco’s ‘High Hopes’, ‘Unbreakable’ by Birds of Tokyo, and ‘A Million Dreams’ from the musical hit The Greatest Showman.

History Competition State Champion

Year 10 student Sophia Gunning has been awarded a State Champion medal for her results in the 2019 Australian History Competition held in June. Sophia received the top score in WA of 94, which also places her equal third in Australia for the competition results.

Media students enjoy CinefestOz

Media students took the opportunity recently to participate in a number of activities, workshops and special screenings during CinefestOz.

Year 10 Media students attended IndigifestOz Day later in the week, where they heard from screen legend Kelton Pell (Red Dog: True Blue), and Jasper Jones star Aaron McGrath.
