Remote Learning could soon be a reality for many adult carers as nations act to implement strategies in the prevention of COVID-19. The daunting task of establishing new routines and schedules, whilst juggling work responsibilities, could prove to be disruptive and challenging for families and schools.

ACC Basketball Championship South West Pool

On Wednesday 4 March, our ‘ballers’ headed to Bunbury to participate in the ACC Basketball Championship Carnival for the South West Pool. The players were keen to get involved and expected some very challenging games from Georgiana Molloy, Frederick Irwin, Foundation and Bunbury CC.

The 7-9 Junior boys had great success in their matches, managing to showcase the skills they have developed over the past few weeks and finish undefeated on top of their pool.

Coronavirus – A SchoolTV Resource

Coronavirus is an evolving international health concern. Around the world, people are being affected in many ways. Individuals of all ages from numerous nationalities are being diagnosed with the virus –– it doesn’t discriminate. Although children are considered at lower risk of infection, they are not immune to the multitude of news reports regularly seen or heard in the media.

Swim Carnival 2020 Results and Records

Well that’s a wrap for our 2020 Swim Carnival and what amazing days they were in their own way. The Year 5-8 Carnival atmosphere was electric with House spirit and competitiveness on display at all times. The Senior Carnival also proved to be a great success with some fearsome performances from our ‘dolphins’ in the pool, and colourful entertainment to remember.

Student Leaders Attend Sydney Conference

Head Boy Lindsay Ward and Head Girl Katie Shepherd attended this year’s JJAMM Student Leadership Conference last month with Head of Ministry, Bernice Roche. They visited many areas around Sydney and Kincumber where Mary MacKillop worked, as well as viewing the impact of recent bushfires and floods in the region.

Students Represent Youth in Local Panel Discussion

During the holidays, two students from our Student Council were invited to participate in a community panel discussion that centred around the viewing of a documentary called ‘The Need to Grow’. This award-winning documentary brings together inspiring stories from different walks of life, and explores the opportunities and struggles of challenging the status quo with real world solutions.

2019 Graduate Results: Atar and Vet Success

2019 graduates from St Mary MacKillop College once again produced some excellent results, with a 100% VET Achievement and eleven students obtaining an ATAR over 90. With a median ATAR of 83.15, these results position the College as the highest ranked regional school in WA, and 30th overall across the state.

Surviving the Final Year

It’s no secret that the end of school can be a huge source of anxiety for both students and parents alike. Studies have shown that over 40% of final year students suffer from high-level anxiety or stress, with some even suffering from depression.

It is important to prepare a student’s brain for success.

Moving to a new school is a big deal! Your child is going to meet lots of new people and be thrown into new situations. That’s bound to make them feel lots of different emotions. They may feel worried and anxious, but also excited and happy – all at the same time!

It is considered to be one of the most important transition periods of a student’s life and can present some significant psychological challenges for both students and parents.

Virtual Reality a hit with Digital Technology students

Year 9 and 10 students were treated to an inspiring Virtual Reality experience in their first week of studying the new practical and creative Digital Technology elective.

To get an idea of what can be created in VR and how the technology works, students had the opportunity to don a headset and use controllers to fend off attacks using a ‘light saber’ in a Star Wars themed virtual training session.
