Students Represent Youth in Local Panel Discussion

During the holidays, two students from our Student Council were invited to participate in a community panel discussion that centred around the viewing of a documentary called ‘The Need to Grow’. This award-winning documentary brings together inspiring stories from different walks of life, and explores the opportunities and struggles of challenging the status quo with real world solutions.

2019 Graduate Results: Atar and Vet Success

2019 graduates from St Mary MacKillop College once again produced some excellent results, with a 100% VET Achievement and eleven students obtaining an ATAR over 90. With a median ATAR of 83.15, these results position the College as the highest ranked regional school in WA, and 30th overall across the state.

Surviving the Final Year

It’s no secret that the end of school can be a huge source of anxiety for both students and parents alike. Studies have shown that over 40% of final year students suffer from high-level anxiety or stress, with some even suffering from depression.

It is important to prepare a student’s brain for success.

Moving to a new school is a big deal! Your child is going to meet lots of new people and be thrown into new situations. That’s bound to make them feel lots of different emotions. They may feel worried and anxious, but also excited and happy – all at the same time!

It is considered to be one of the most important transition periods of a student’s life and can present some significant psychological challenges for both students and parents.

Virtual Reality a hit with Digital Technology students

Year 9 and 10 students were treated to an inspiring Virtual Reality experience in their first week of studying the new practical and creative Digital Technology elective.

To get an idea of what can be created in VR and how the technology works, students had the opportunity to don a headset and use controllers to fend off attacks using a ‘light saber’ in a Star Wars themed virtual training session.

Students and guests have a Ball at Aravina

On Friday 7 February our Year 12 students and guests attended the St Mary MacKillop College Year 12 Ball. The venue was Aravina Estate Winery in Yallingup, and the ‘Casino Royale’ theme set the scene for what was a spectacular evening. The Red Carpet Arrivals again were a highlight as the ladies amazed the crowd in their glamorous dresses, accompanied by the sharpest looking gentlemen, all suit-ably attired.

Paralympian Brant Garvey tells Year 11s: “no excuses”

Brant Garvey was born missing his right leg above the knee, but that hasn’t stopped him from achieving some exceptional feats.

He shared his story with a group of Year 11 students on Friday as part of their Religion and Life course looking at what gives meaning and purpose in life.

Movers and shakers: staff changes for 2020

We bid a fond farewell to three of our Primary teachers - Michaela Sawle, Claire Peirce and Clint Fabre, and thank them for everything they brought to the College during their time here. Nat Power will be taking leave for a year, and our warm wishes go with Helen Rabjones as she embarks on her classroom teaching career in Dardanup.

High Distinctions Awarded in Mathematics

Certificates of High Distinction were awarded to two of our students this year in the Australian Mathematics Competition, which was held in August. Noah Bates in Year 8 and Olivia Hogarth in Year 10 were placed in the top 3% of students in Western Australia for their results, an outstanding achievement.
