ACC Basketball Championship South West Pool

On Thursday 4 March our basketballers headed north to Bunbury to participate in the ACC Basketball Championship Carnival for the South West Pool. Our players were keen to get involved and with our opponents comprising of Georgiana Molloy, Frederick Irwin, Our Lady of Mercy and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar we were expecting some very challenging games.

Swimming Carnival Results

On Thursday 18 February and Friday 19 February, St Mary MacKillop College students participated in the annual Year 5-8 and 9-12 Inter-House Swimming Carnival for 2021, at the Geographe Leisure Centre.

The House factions were fantastic in managing competitors for their events, and continued the School’s strong House tradition of cheering in support of their respective swimmers.

2020 ATAR & VET Results

St Mary MacKillop College’s 2020 graduates have produced some excellent results in what was a challenging year for everyone involved.

With 100% VET graduation, the College handed out 79 nationally recognized qualifications to students in Certificate II, III or IV across a wide range of industries, from Music Performance and Sports Coaching to Hospitality, Furnishing and Engineering.

ACC Athletics Carnival

On 18 September, a select group of students from Years 7-12 headed up to Perth to represent the College at the D Division ACC Athletics Carnival. Spectacular weather provided perfect conditions for explosive performances and personal bests on the ‘tartan’.

It was a fantastic trip and the students from St Mary MacKillop should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Slam Series Basketball Carnival 2020: Champions all round

On Friday 4 September, our selected Year 6 girls and boys basketball teams competed in the Slam Series Basketball Carnival, held at the Geographe Leisure Centre in Busselton.

This is the second year the Slam Series has been held in Busselton, and this year saw many more schools competing than previous years.

Year 10 Football Carnival

On Wednesday 5 August, 50 students travelled down to Hay Park, Bunbury last week for the Year 10 Eagles Schoolboys Cup and the Year 10 Girls Fremantle Dockers Cup competing for superiority amongst a number of schools in the South West Division.

Kindy classes explore sounds of the digeridoo

Mrs Bayliss and Miss White’s Kindy classes enjoyed a visit from Mr Chris Narkle this week, who brought along his didgeridoo to demonstrate the various sounds that can be made from this traditional Aboriginal instrument.

Students in Kindy have been learning about Aboriginal Culture this term.

Music therapy for dementia patients in Busselton

Students and staff at the College have teamed up with the local Rotary Club on a project aimed at using music therapy to improve the lives of Busselton's dementia patients.

Studies have shown that favourite tunes can stimulate memory, calm the mind and spark conversation.

Year 8 students making music in Science

The Year 8 Core Physics classes have been very creative in exploring the physics of sound and sound waves recently.

Students investigated how sound was produced by the four main types of instruments (aerophones, chordophones, idiophones and membranophones). They then chose an instrument and researched its origins, materials and design, as well as how the sound is produced.
