‘Eagles Rock My School’ visit

Last Friday Rick the Rock and the West Coast Eagles Community & Education Team visited the Primary campus to speak to the students as part of the ‘Eagles Rock My School’ program. Rick and James entertained the children and shared examples of staying healthy and showing resilience in difficult situations.

Year 12 students prepared for Nursing studies

12 Year 12 students from St Mary MacKillop College are on track for a career in Nursing with the completion of their Certificate IV in Preparation for Nursing Studies this week.

MacKillop was one of the first schools in the South West to complete the VET program, which was delivered by Registered Nurse and Senior Lecturer Jasmine Scadden through the Southern Regional TAFE. It was designed to provide students graduating Year 12 with necessary skills and knowledge to continue studying nursing at the diploma and undergraduate level.

Warming winter for those in need

Year 11 students met with Darren Reynolds, an education officer from The Salvation Army, last week, who spoke about what poverty actually looks like statistically in Perth, what social justice groups do to help end cyclical poverty and the amazing support they offer those in need.

Taking the Science and Engineering Challenge in Bunbury

A group of Year 9 students travelled to Bunbury on 2 June to take part in the ‘Science and Engineering Challenge’. Managed by the Rotary Club of Bunbury-Leschenault, this day of activity allows students to experience aspects of science and engineering they may not encounter in a school environment.

Years 7-9 Maths students ‘have sum fun’ online

Over three consecutive weeks, ten teams of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 had a go at some very tricky maths problems posted online in the Have Sum Fun Online competition. Conducted by the Mathematical Association of WA (MAWA), the challenge was to solve problems as a team of four and post the correct answers online in the shortest possible time, with a total of an hour to complete each round.

ACC (Secondary) Cross Country in Perth

On Thursday 2 June athletes representing St Mary MacKillop College boarded the bus at 5am in order to compete in the ACC Cross Country at Alderbury Reserve - Perry Lakes, Perth.

At the carnival around 60 schools were competing, with an average of 330 athletes in each race.

ACC Year 10 School Boys Cup

St Mary MacKillop College’s Year 10 boys AFL team played some outstanding games against quality sides to win the ACC Year 10 School Boys South West Carnival on Wednesday. The boys rose to challenge with a great style of play, fancy foot skills and excellent teamwork to convincingly win all three games and progress undefeated into the Grand Final Carnival in Perth next week.

Primary Cross Country results

Once more we enjoyed some winter sunshine and blue sky as students in Years 3-6 took to the oval for their Cross Country races on the morning of Friday 10 June. The 1.2km course wound its way around the oval, before following the track behind the College and back towards the church.

Volcanoes erupt in Year 9 Science

The lava was flowing in Year 9 Science this week, as students completed the construction of their volcanoes and simulated eruptions with different chemical reactions. The students used their imagination and creative skills to design and make some amazing volcanoes using a variety of recycled materials, paper mâché and modelling clay.
